PMAP: The Preeminent Organization of People Manager and HR Practitioners in the Country

The People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) is a professional, non-stock, not-for-profit organization of over 2,500 member companies and individual management executives engaged or interested in human resource management (HRM) and industrial relations (IR) work. Founded in 1956, PMAP continues the tradition of its forefathers in advancing the profession, the science and the art of people management.

PMAP helps institutions mold an enlightened, competent, socially responsible and influential sector of people managers who can effectively participate in nation-building. The organization also helps its members become more effective on the job by teaching the human aspect of management via numerous career development fora and training programs.

Makatao Awards for Media Excellence

The Makatao Awards for Media Excellence aims to honor members of the mass media (TV, radio, print, online broadcast and social media) for their outstanding works, articles, features and contributions that enhance public understanding of the role and impact of sound people management in both public and private sector in the country.

 

Objectives of the Makatao Awards

The Makatao Awards for Media Excellence aims to contribute to the public good by promoting greater awareness and understanding of people and labor issues that affect organizations, communities, and the nation. It upholds journalistic integrity by recognizing fair, balanced, and ethical reporting that builds trust and accountability. At the same time, it celebrates creative excellence by honoring innovative and impactful storytelling across television, radio, print, and digital platforms. Most importantly, the Awards emphasize people-first management principles and practices, highlighting media works that advocate ethical leadership, employee well-being, diversity and inclusion, and sustainable people management as essential drivers of organizational and national progress.

Through these recognitions, PMAP continues to champion impactful and responsible media coverage that strengthens understanding of workplace issues and promotes harmonious employer–employee relations nationwide.

We are thrilled to kick off the search for the next PMAP Makatao Awards for Media Excellence awardees! In a world where businesses and organizations are striving to build stronger economies, it remains crucial to honor media practitioners who fearlessly deliver truthful and unbiased news updates, during the emergence of technology and continues societal issues across the country. 

In light of the challenges we face, we have updated the Nomination Forms and Criteria for this year’s awards.

Below are the information on the 2025 Makatao Awards for Media Excellence

Criteria for Entry

1. Entries must advance public knowledge and understanding of current people and labor-related issues, with particular focus on topics such as:

a. Mental Health and Well-being
b. Employment and Industrial Relations
c. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
d. Human Capital Management and Labor Relations
e. Leadership, Good Governance, and Sustainability
f. People Management and Entrepreneurship
g. Talent Attraction and Retention
h. Organizational Development
i. Learning and Development
j. Human Resources Research and Evidence-Based Practices
k. Health, Mobility, and Economy
l. Gender and Development
m. Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)
n. United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs)

2. Nominees must have published or produced a minimum of four (4) articles or content pieces, at least one per quarter, and up to a maximum of twelve (12), or one per month, addressing people and labor-related issues, or topics             within the areas listed above, within the last twelve (12) months (July 2024 – July 2025).
3. Entries must present all sides of the issue fairly and objectively.
4. Content must effectively explain the impact of issues on communities and the nation.
5. Issues must be accurately described or represented in the nominee’s work.
6. All entries are eligible for submission, including those that have previously received awards or recognition from other award-giving bodies.

Criteria for Judging

(20%) Ethical Practices and Professional Standards – The extent to which the nominee adheres to ethical journalism practices, including fairness, accuracy, accountability, and respect for sources. Due diligence will be observed through fact-checking, verification of data sources, and review of compliance with professional codes of ethics.

(20%) Relevance of Content – Focus and depth of coverage on people and labor issues, highlighting the timeliness and significance of the subject matter.

(20%) Integrity – Integrity is demonstrated both by the author and in the article itself. Works must cite credible sources, use accurate data, and provide transparency in sourcing and attribution. Nominees’ professional records and credibility will also be taken into account.

(20%) Balance and Fairness – Coverage must present multiple perspectives where appropriate, avoiding bias, sensationalism, or misleading framing, and ensuring that all sides are represented accurately.

(20%) Organizational and People Management Impact – The extent to which the work highlights, assesses, or contributes to organizational performance and the efficacy of people management principles and practices, such as leadership, employee well-being, diversity and inclusion, or sustainable HR policies.

Who can nominate?

Media organizations are encouraged to submit nominations for the awards. Individual nominations are also welcome; however, nominees must secure a letter from the media company, signed by its authorized representative, certifying that the program or segment they air, or the articles they submit, are legitimate and officially recognized by the organization. Public nominations are also open and will be duly considered.

Eligibility

1. The Makatao Awards honor individuals and organizations using the language of English, Filipino, or any local dialect in presenting people or labor issues.

2. The nominated story, photo, news, or feature must have been published, televised, or broadcast for the past twelve (12) months.

3. Nominated news anchors, show hosts, writers, and reporters should be practicing their field for at least two years and currently working in a media company.

ENTRY INFORMATION

  1. Each media organization or individual may submit a maximum of three (3) nominations per category.
  2. All nominations must include a completed and signed Official Nomination Form along with the supporting documents to be submitted to the Makatao Awards Secretariat.
  3. Nominees must have published or produced a minimum of four (4) articles or content pieces, at least one per quarter, and up to a maximum of twelve (12), or one per month, addressing people and labor-related issues, or topics within the areas listed above, within the last twelve (12) months (July 2024 – July 2025).
  • Print Entries: Must include a digital copy or PDF of the article, indicating the date of publication, the journalist’s name, and the name of the newspaper.
  • TV and Radio Entries: Must include a digital copy of the program or segment, preferably in .mp4 format for television/film and .mp3 format for radio, along with introductory details or a station ID.
  1. Nominations may be submitted by media organizations, individuals, or the public:
  • Individual Nominations: Accepted, provided the nominee secures a certification letter from their media company, signed by an authorized representative, confirming that the program, segment, or article is legitimate and officially recognized.
  • Public Nominations: Accepted, subject to confirmation. Once a public nomination is received, the Makatao Awards Secretariat will notify the nominated individual or organization and request formal confirmation of their acceptance.
