Makatao Awards for Media Excellence
The Makatao Awards for Media Excellence aims to honor members of the mass media (TV, radio, print, online broadcast and social media) for their outstanding works, articles, features and contributions that enhance public understanding of the role and impact of sound people management in both public and private sector in the country.
Mass Media virtually touched every aspect of our daily live as it plays a significant role in shaping public perception on a variety of important issues through the information that is disseminated through them. When journalists or show hosts are insightful and judicious in their reporting, citizens can play a more informed role in the many issues and debates that shape their communities.
Through this award, PMAP hopes to encourage excellent coverage of people management and other related people issues that promote harmonious relationship between employers and their employees.

We are thrilled to kick off the search for the next PMAP Makatao Awards for Media Excellence awardees! In a world where businesses and organizations are striving to build stronger economies, it remains crucial to honor media practitioners who fearlessly deliver truthful and unbiased news updates, during the emergence of technology and continues societal issues across the country.
In light of the challenges we face, we have updated the Nomination Forms and Criteria for this year’s awards.

Below are the information on the 2024 Makatao Awards for Media Excellence
Criteria for Entry
The following criteria shall be used in selecting entries for the Makatao Awards for Media Excellence:
1. Advance public knowledge and understanding of current people issues and labor-related topics such as:
a. Mental Health
b. Well-being
c. Employment relations
d. Industrial relations
e. Human capital management/Labor management
f. Leadership and Sustainability
g. People Management and Entrepreneurship
h. Health, Mobility and Economy
i. Gender and Development
j. Other Social/People Management Issues (e.g. Child Labor, HIV, drug abuse, sex work, human trafficking, etc.)
k. Migration (OFWs)
l. Diversity, equality and inclusion
m. Future of work and technology
n. COVID-19 Management
2. Nominees must be consistently talking about people and labor issues or related to the topics mentioned above.
3. Cover all sides of the topic/ issues fairly.
4. Effectively explain how issues impact the community or country.
5. Accurately describe or present people/ labor issues through their works.
6. Entries must not have been awarded in any award giving body or in any contest.
Criteria for Judging
- Ethical practice and professional standards (25%) – Professional ethics are the guiding principles that dictate the conduct of individuals or collectives within a professional setting.
- Relevance of Content (25%) – Timely and relatively connected with the list of categories in discussing various issues.
- Integrity (20%) – Upholding honesty and reputation for human rights in scrutinizing societal concerns.
- Balance and Fairness (20%) – All sectors are given space and transparency (management, employees, private and public entities)
- Delivery (10%) – Shows respect while precisely addressing the issue in dealing with individuals and organizations.
Eligibility
1. The Makatao Awards honor individuals, and organizations using the language of English, Filipino, or any local dialect in presenting people or labor issues.
2. The nominated story, photo, news, or feature must be published, televised, or broadcasted between April 2023 and April 2024.
3. Nominated news anchors, show hosts, writers, and reporters, should be practicing their field for at least 2 years and currently working in a media company.
ENTRY INFORMATION
A. Brief Description About the Company/ Network/ Station
Provide a brief description of your company/network/Station (short history, services, and other important information that you would like the Makatao Awards Committee to know). Limit your description to a maximum of 300 words.
B. Entry Format
1. A maximum of three (3) entries only per category can be submitted.
2. Entries must be nominated by their company or organization.
3. All entries must include:
- – A complete and signed copy of the Official Entry Form; and
– A description of how the entry meets the criteria mentioned above. -(Maximum of 2 pages only)
– The entries must be aired or published from April 2023 to April 2024.
4. All print entries (newspapers) must include:
- A digital copy or PDF file of the article with date of publication, name of journalist and name of the newspaper where it was published.
5. All TV and radio, entries must include:
- A digital copy of the segment/program, including an introductory information or station ID’s preferably in .mp4 file (for TV and film), mp3 file (for radio).
Deadline of submission of entries is EXTENDED until July 5, 2024. All digital copies may be sent to Mr. Mark Fernandez at mark.fernandez@pmap.org.ph.
