People Management Hackathon

PMAP Hackathon 2021: Future Proofing the Hybrid Workforce

Background

COVID-19 has drastically changed how business operates, causing rigorous shifts in how we work, where we work, and the technologies we use to stay connected. HR practitioners are now challenged to lead their respective organizations in navigating the future landscape of work. By leveraging the existing technologies and new practices in the field, the goal is to generate solutions that would accelerate recovery of the economy and address newly emerged issues in the labor force. The envisioned outcomes should provide solutions to the identified problems related to People Management such as Workforce Planning, Capacity Building, Performance Management, Productivity, Talent Development, Employee Engagement, and Total Rewards.

Participants

The competition is open to all students, professionals, and aspiring start-up companies in the Philippines. Participants are highly encouraged to form a team of 4 or 5. Members of the PMAP Research Committee, organizers, volunteers, judges, sponsors, or in any other privileged position at the event are discouraged to participate.

Individuals who wish to participate in the event can still register on the website however, teams will be designated after the registration period.

Registration

Each team should register via PMAP Hackathon website. Information about the participants should be provided along with the team name and role designation. Registration is free for all participating teams.

Participants will receive a welcome kit via email after successful registration.

PMAP Hackathon Kick-off

To kick-off the Hackathon proper, a mini event, consisting of lightning talks and workshops, will be conducted. All participants will be gathered virtually to meet fellow participants and event organizers.

Be aware of your intellectual property rights and get informed on how to protect your innovative ideas.

Ideation

Once the hackathon officially begins, the team will have three (3) weeks to work on their solutions and prepare the requirements. The solution can be any unique innovation using science and technology, providing a creative and sustainable strategy to solve the problem.

Teams cannot work on ideas that have already been done and presented in other Hackathons or other competitions. Solutions shall be subject for review of originality to protect against plagiarism, intellectual property, and other related issues.

Teams can also use libraries, frameworks, or open-source code in formulating their solutions. Working on a project before the event and open-sourcing it for the sole purpose of using the code during the event is against the spirit of the rules and is not allowed.

During the three week ideation period, teams can consult with the PMAP Hackathon committee for clarifications.

The solution to the problems will not be limited to any format. The participants may choose to develop (i) a HR Program along with the framework and simulation, (ii) algorithm with corresponding prototype. However, it is suggested that the valuation of the solution should be below

Requirements

Each team is required to submit the following requirements that will serve as the basis for judging.

A. Documentation of the solution. This document explains the idea behind the solution. It should also describe the methods and laying outflows and features. HR Programs and framework – pdf file containing the design and simulation results Algorithm – code file and application

B. A short video pitch about the solution that contains information about the solution and a demo of the simulation or application. This will be the elevator pitch which will be 3-5 minutes long and will be used to shortlist three (3) finalists who will advance to the pitching stage.

C. Pitch Deck (in ppt and pdf format) following the Sequoia Capital format:

Company/ Team purpose: define your team/company in a single declarative sentence. This is harder than it looks. It’s easy to get caught up listing features instead of communicating your mission.
Problem. Describe the pain of your customer. How is this addressed today and what are the shortcomings to current solutions.
Solution.Explain your eureka moment. Why is your value prop unique and compelling? Why will it endure? And where does it go from here?
Why now? The best companies almost always have a clear why now? Nature hates a vacuum—so why hasn’t your solution been built before now?
Market potential. Identify your customer and your market. Some of the best companies invent their own markets.
Competition / alternatives. Who are your direct and indirect competitors. Show that you have a plan to win.
Business model. How do you intend to thrive? How long is the return of investment?
Team. Tell the story of your founders and key team members.
Financials. Cost-benefit analysis
Vision. If all goes well, what will you have built in five years?

Deadline of submission is on July 26, 2021 [not later than 11:59PM].

Note that the design and output belongs to each participating team however, PMAP reserves the right to promote and market the winning entries in the media.
